To the land of crocodiles.... Bhagabatpur

Bhagabatpur Crocodile Project, established since 1976, located near Kakdwip, south 24 Parganas is one of the wild life santuaries of Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve. Situated on the bank of Saptamukhi Estuary, it has a dense mangrove forest with mesmerising beauty, attracting the nature lovers. In this project the hatchery of estuarine crocodiles, houses crocodiles of varying ages from new born to less than one year, one year to two year and .... gradually the full grown adults as long as 15 feet. Different types of crocodiles can be seen in their natural habitat. Museum having





crocodile eggs, and preserved specimen of crocodile hatching from the egg are displayed for interested visitors. Tourists are allowed from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm inside the santuary. Tourists are drawn here not only to see the saltwater crocodiles but also the dense beauty of the mangrove swamps. After a quiet and pleasant daytime visit around the santuary, the perfect sunset from the adjoining jetty over the horizon of Saptamukhi makes an impeccable ending of this unforgettable single day trip.
